The County Administrator's Office assists the Jackson County Board of Commissioners in planning, administering and implementing the Jackson County Wasteshed Recovery Plan.  The County Administrator's Office also oversees all solid waste franchise agreements which govern collection, transportation, and disposal within Jackson County.

Solid Waste Management is governed by Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) Chapter 459 and 459-A.  Jackson County Ordinance Chapter 1864 governs Solid Waste Franchising and Nuisance Abatement within Jackson County.

Jackson County is a member of Jackson County Recycling Partnership (JCRP).  JCRP provides a collaborative forum for the County, cities, and waste haulers to foster awareness of waste prevention, hazardous waste reduction, and composting throughout the County.  JCRP funds and directs the Jackson County Master Recycler Program housed at the Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Service.

The County funds Jackson County SMARTWorks which encourages businesses, schools, events, and homes to reduce waste, conserve natural resources, and save money through waste prevention, recycling, and reuse.

The Jackson County Recycling Directory is a comprehensive, easy-to-use tool for homes and businesses to access recycling, reuse, and waste prevention opportunities.

Residential and commercial waste collection is provided by Ashland Sanitary & Recycling, Rogue Disposal & Recycling, and Southern Oregon Sanitation.

Ashland Sanitary & Recycling and Rogue Disposal & Recycling operate transfer stations and all three companies operate recycling centers.

Dry Creek Landfill is an active class three permitted landfill that receives solid waste from throughout Southern Oregon. In addition to housing the landfill, the site also contains a large commercial composting project and a gas to energy facility.
