The Parks and Recreation program operates eleven County Parks encompassing twenty-two developed areas and providing the opportunity for enjoyment of outdoor recreational activities.
Recreational opportunities available include: picnicking, camping, fishing, boating, water-skiing, windsurfing, swimming, water sliding, river boating, hiking, rock climbing, hang gliding, cycling, reserved group camping, reserved group picnicking, motor sports including drag racing, karting, and autocross; softball, little league baseball, target shooting, music concerts and festivals, bird watching, nature hikes, equestrian activities, and indoor and outdoor facilities on a reservation basis for meeting, weddings, and concerts.
The Parks and Recreation program strives to make each park location as self supporting as possible. To accomplish this a revenue strategy of use fees, grants, entitlements, revenue generating events and concessions contracts, along with volunteers, social agency cooperation, public/public and public/private partnerships are utilized. Ongoing reorganizations and cost containment strategies are employed to provide a variety of recreational experiences at the lowest cost.
