Food Handler Cards

Food handlers are required to obtain a food handler card within 30 days of beginning work in a food service establishment. Food handler cards issued in any Oregon county are valid anywhere in Oregon. The cards are valid for three years. If you have a valid food manager training certificate, it is accepted in lieu of a food handler card. Food handler cards issued in other states are not valid in Oregon.

How do I get a food handler card?
To obtain a food handler card, you must pass the food handler test. We administer the test at the Environmental Public Health office located at 1000 East Main Street in Medford (see map below). Be sure to read the Food Safety Manual prior to taking the test. Download the Food Safety Manual in PDF (Acrobat Reader required), or pick up a copy at our office.

Hours of testing: 8 am to 11:30 am Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday; and 1 pm to 4 pm Monday through Friday. No testing is available Tuesday mornings.

Cost: $10.00. BRING PHOTO ID.

You can also take the food handler test online.  You must have a printer and credit card to take this test.
