|Front Counter Application connects public with variety of county mapping databases online
Monday, June 24, 2002
Jackson County residents can now look up tax assessment and permit information on any county property via the Internet, thanks to the new browser-based real property inquiry system called “Front Counter Application.” Before implementation of this innovative program, residents had to physically go to the courthouse for needed information.
The system is unique in that it ties the county planning database of building, zoning and land-use permits to the assessor’s database of land and improvement classification and values. The databases are linked through an electronic mapping tool with multiple map layers that show practically everything — from aerial photos to school districts. This combination of data and mapping is particularly useful for researching public records for information on a property a person owns or is considering purchasing.
Land and property professionals, including real estate agents, appraisers and contractors, can easily access these public records through the Internet. The goal of this application is to provide a service that is a convenience to the public that also frees up valuable time for county employees to serve customers that have unique needs that can not be addressed online. For those without Internet access or for those who just prefer to do business in person, this information is still available at county offices during normal busness hours.
