Dave Gilmour Commissioner
Dave Gilmour was elected to the Jackson County Board of Commissioners in 2002; and relected in November 2006. Commissioner Gilmour serves as chair of the Board for the year 2009.
For the 2009 calendar year, Dr. Gilmour serves as the Board’s liaison to Library Services and Jackson County Health and Human Services, which includes the following advisory committees: Environmental Health, Commission on Children and Families, Local Alcoholism and Drug Planning, Mental Health, Public Health, and Homeless Taskforce.
Dr. Gilmour is also liaison to the following non-county departments: Air Quality, Association of Oregon Counties District 4 Chair, Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Regional Problem Solving (RPS), Rogue Valley Council of Governments (RVCOG), Oregon State University Extension, and Legislators.
Dr. Gilmour graduated cum laude from Dartmouth College and then received a medical degree from Pennsylvania State University, School of Medicine in 1974, and completed his internship at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He then spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Apia in Western Samoa. He did his medical residency at the University of Hawaii/Kaiser Hospital from 1979-1981. Dr. Gilmour has also spent time working with the Navajo and conducting medical research in Ethiopia.
Besides his medical career, Dr. Gilmour has spent many years in public service. Dr. Gilmour served on the Central Point Planning Commission from 1987 to 1990, and then on the Central Point School Board from 1990 to 1999. He was also elected to the Central Point City Council from 1999 to 2002. Dr. Gilmour served as the Jackson County Health Officer from 1987-2002.
Dr. Gilmour met his wife Sera in Western Samoa, and was married in 1977. Currently, he resides in Central Point and continues to work as a family physician at Providence Medical Group-Central Point. Dave and his wife, Sera, have two adult children, Marietta and Scott.
